ETHNOBOTANY STUDY FOR THE AREA OF TORTUGUERO

This study is being conducted by Mario García, the station manager, along with local townspeople from San Francisco and Tortuguero. The aim of the project is to collect valuable knowledge of local plants and their uses by the elders in the community. The surveys are sporadic as it depends on the availability of the people we are working with and the length of the study is unknown. Our partners in this project are two botany professors, Pablo Sánchez-Vindas and Luis J. Poveda Álvarez from Costa Rica's Universidad Nacional. Data from this project will be shared with the communities to try to create a greater awareness of the value of the flora in the area.
