To whom it may concern: My name is Gary Ballenger and I am very interested in the position you have open. I have lived in Tortuguero for over seven years now. I know the canals and rivers because I had three boats here. I have also used a canoe for the last seven years . I also know most of the species of fish in the rivers. I have a cedula of resident and speak fluent spanish. I am originally from California, but have been in Costa Rica for twenty seven years. Seven years in Tortuguero and eighteen years in Playa Jaco. I held a job in Oregon which consisted of demanding field work in the national forest

The main thing is this would be a job I would love. If there is something with which I am not familiar, I learn very quickly. Thank you and hope to hear from you soon. Gary A. Ballenger

Gracias

Good Morning,

I realize your study was done several years ago however this info may be useful to those working in the area.

I was a tourist at Turtle Beach Lodge in January 2012. On the way out to the Lodge we stopped at Tortuguero Village and looked at the beautiful beach. We are aware that local people are hired during turtle nesting season to act as trackers and give visitors a chance to see this amazing event. A $4.00 sticker is available in season which helps offset the wages for the trackers. By using local guides and providing income I believe it was hoped that there might be less poaching of turtles for food. Education about the importance of conservation was I believe part of the National Parks program.

We were not there during turtle season but I very much wanted to purchase a sticker to remember the visit as well as to support the trackers program.

I was told they were available only during the season. I passed my question on to the Lodge but did not receive a reply.

I think this was a missed opportunity as I think many tourists visiting at any time of the year would like to support the program if given the information.

Could you look into this ?

Thanks,

Lynda Norton
